| History | Hawksmoor, 1716-27. A very sumptuous Church, quite different from the curves and lightness of Wren. Hawksmoor, a pupil of Wren, uses more mathematical elements in his composition. The interior is lit by high level semi-circular windows on four sides. A highly decorated altar-piece dominates the interior which was, alas, "improved" by Butterfield over a century ago. | ||||||||
